ALGEBRA HOMEWORK OCT 10/27

For October 27, please complete the following:
  • Log on to the xtreemmath.com/xtreem website.  Print out the blackline masters for the lesson, Systems of  Linear Equations TEKS A.8ABC. Bring a copy of the blackline masters with you to the next meeting, you will be using this at the next meeting.
  • From today's lesson, choose one of the activities to complete with your students:  Balance Tasks (with Dr. Pratt), Fundraising, Using Concrete Models Check up or Solving with Concrete Models to do with your class before the next meeting.  Bring your student work with you to Novembers meeting.  Please comment below which activity you will be completing with your students.  This lesson is on the xtreemmath.com/xtreem website.
  • Six Flags Lessons:  Upload your lessons into dropbox
  • Next Meeting: November 10

  2. I am not 100% but I think I am going to use the Algeblocks to model solving equations for my struggling students!

  3. I will be doing the fundraising activity. It lines up perfectly with what my districts curriculum is doing next!

  7. I can't decide between Balance Task and Piggy bank. I am leaning towards piggy bank for the ease of already having Algebra Tiles.

  18. The balance task activity is great manipulative to show my students how it is represented!

  19. On the factoring lesson, I plan to use the lessons we covered later in the year when we cover that in my Algebra class. I took notes on what we did, and I have used some of these concepts in my class. I really enjoyed the lesson and look forward to using these concepts in my centers as well as tutoring after school.

I felt that the Algebraic Habits of Mind that applied to the lesson was Alge

  21. Currently I am teaching Exponential Functions. During the week of July 23-27, 2012, we did the Endangered Species activity that modeled the decline of a species such as the Panda Bear (i.e. the skittles lab) and the Paper Folding Activity. I decided to do the Endangered Species Lab as well as the Paper Folding Lab with my Mathematical Modeling with Application students.

What is Mathematical Modeling with Application? It is a course that offers a review of Algebra 1 and Geometry to students that struggled Algebra 1 and Geometry their first go round prior to entering Algebra 2. In addition, the course offer a introduction to some Algebra 2 topics so that students feel confident and successful in Algebra 2.
