how am I going to incorporate factoring into my lessons.

We are beginning to start on function this six weeks. I plan to introduce the lesson that was given to us in September. I best way I could do this is by reintroducing the algebra tiles to my students and demonstrating area again. I will then see how they retained what we talked about in the first six weeks.

  1. With the sped students, I would start off with the Algebra tiles to introducefactoring. Hopefully this will help them get a foundation of factoring, along with a kinesthetic component. I feel like this will get them thinking and open a dialogue with them.

    1. I am choosing the first lesson; Dr. Pratt's balancing blocks.

  2. I think the lesson is an excellent model for introducing factoring polynomials. I think the concrete model really helps students visualize and understand the concept of factoring before moving to the abstract.

  3. I really love the way that students are going to be able to "see" what is going on with factoring. I strongly believe that good teaching involves a series of steps that will eventually lead the students to the abstract.
